City of the future in Haryana: New city development on the Kundli Manesar Palwal Motorway

The Haryana state government’s plan to build a new city on the Kundli Manesar Palwal highway, which runs through Gurgaon, is a bold and ambitious project that aims to build a futuristic business hub with world-class facilities for the industrial, professional, commercial and residential sectors. This proposed city will have a population of 1.8 million people and will be built on roughly 50,000 hectares of land near Manesar.

The project’s master plan includes a contemporary city design that features a range of modern amenities such as dedicated pathways for walkers and cyclists, low-carbon green infrastructure, and a utility tunnel that will cater to all types of utilities, including electricity, water, and telephone network lines. The tunnel will eliminate the need for road digging in the future, thus reducing the risk of disruption to the city’s infrastructure. The economic impact of the Global City project will lead to significant job creation and skilling opportunities, further boosting the region’s economic growth. The project’s emphasis on modern technology and future-oriented industries will help create a low-carbon green infrastructure, making it an eco-friendly development. However, there are some potential challenges that need to be addressed to ensure the project’s success. One critical aspect is the availability of skilled labor, which may be a challenge initially. Additionally, the project’s funding and execution may also pose a challenge, given the size and complexity of the project

The projected city’s connectivity is one of its most notable assets, with access to major highways such as the Delhi Vadodara Mumbai Motorway, the Delhi Jaipur Motorway, and the Dwarka Motorway that connects to the airport, making it a crucial position for enterprises.

Additionally, the city will be connected to the Gurgaon-Bawal metro corridor and other modes of public transportation, making it easy to access New Delhi and other localities in Gurgaon.

The project will be developed in two phases, with the first phase covering approximately 500 acres and the second phase covering an additional 500 acres. The state government expects to raise approximately Rs 1 lakh crore from the sale of mixed land-use plots in the project to big companies, indicating the potential economic benefits of this project.

Besides all the aspirations and hopes, there are concerns about the potential environmental impact of such a massive development project, including the risk of increased traffic congestion, air and noise pollution, and a strain on natural resources. The government must take adequate measures to address these issues and ensure that the project is developed sustainably.

Overall, the Haryana state government’s plan to establish a new city is a positive step towards creating a modern, sustainable, and technologically advanced urban center that can attract international-level investors and consultants. However, it is crucial to ensure that the development is sustainable and equitable and benefits all stakeholders involved, including local communities and the environment. Let’s be optimistic with careful planning, execution, and monitoring, and make the project successful and a model for future development in the region.
